We as a nation celebrate Memorial Day as a day to pay respect to those who have passed on, especially our fallen soldiers. I would like to publicly say “Thank You” to all those who serve or have served to keep our country free.
There are several qualities that mark a good solider and we as believers can also follow those examples in our Christian life. A good soldier is…
A Follower – no one can be a good leader who cannot first be a good follower. In the military there is a chain of command. Those who are given authority also submit to those in authority over them. Refusal to obey orders results in severe consequences. As believers we must also be submitted to God’s authority and His chain of command and follow his directions.
A Fighter – The bible tells us to fight the good fight of Faith (1 Tim 6:12) We must stand strong for the things in our lives that God has promised us and stand up for what is right. God is counting on us to stand in the gap for others in this world.
Familiar - He is familiar with the weapons that are available to him. He is trained to able weapons in the dark. He is familiar with the strategy and tactics of his enemy and can recognize them. He knows who his enemy is...and who it isn’t. We as believers need to be familiar with these same things.
Faithful – He must endure and remain faithful even during hard times. 2 Tim. 2:3 says, “Endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” Don’t be quick to run when things become difficult in your life. You have been equipped to “fight the good fight!”
